Donor Eligibility (continued)
There are also certain medications that can cause you to be deferred. These medications cause deferral for ALL donors.
Temporary Deferrals:
- Antigen injections for treatment of allergies (24 hours after last injection)
- Avodart, also known as Dutasteride (6 months after last dose)
- Propecia, Proscar, also known as Finasteride (1 month after last dose)
Longer Term Deferrals:
- Accutane, Amnesteem, Claravis, Sotret, also known as Isotretinion (Deferral may be reversed if discontinued use for more than 1 month can be determined)
- Hepatitis Immunoglobulin (1 year)
- Soriatane, also known as Acitretin (3 years from last dose)
Indefinite Deferrals:
- Tegison, also known as Etretinate (indefinite)
- Beef insulin (indefinite)
Platelet pheresis donors only. NO DEFERRAL FOR WHOLE BLOOD DONORS.
- Aspirin (2 days)
- Feldene, known as Piroxicam (2 days)
- Plavix (Clopidogrel), Ticlid (Ticlopidine) (14 days)
